Mandate Preparation of legislative proposals; dissemination of information; supervision of compliance with relevant national and international standards; examination of and providing opinions on the issue of removal of judges from the office.
Membership Members of the Committee are elected by the Milli Majlis for the term of 5 years.
Working methods Items can be placed on the agenda of the Committee by the President of Milli Majlis as well as by the Chairperson of the Committee as initiated by him or by any of the Committee members. Proceedings are normally public. The Committee has no power to organise on site inquiries. Nor may it arrange hearing or summon government officials. Decisions are taken by majority of the Committee members. The Committee has no specific follow-up powers. Twice a year the Committee must report on its activities to the Milli Majlis.
Relations with other parliamentary bodies When preparing or discussing draft laws and resolutions falling within the mandate of several Parliamentary committees, the latter set up joint working groups, organise joint meetings or interact in other ways.
Relations with external bodies The Committee actively cooperates with the Government, Ombudsman, academic and educational institutions as well as non-governmental organisations. The cooperation can take different forms, such as joint law-drafting, joint debates concerning specific draft laws, joint conferences, seminars and similar events and etc.
Subjects dealt with Draft amendments to the Law on Freedom of Assembly; Draft Law on Rights of Suspects and Accused; Draft Amendments to the Law on Freedom of Religion.
